After 90 minutes on the ground, JA814A pushed back at 9:49pm for departure as flight NH882 to Tokyo Narita and took off at 10:04pm. It arrived back at gate 51 at Tokyo Narita at 8:25am local time the next morning, exactly on time, after a flight of 9 hours 36 minutes.

JA814A was first flown on 23 August 2012 and delivered 24-25 September 2012, so it is just over 7 years old.

Qantas had 3-times weekly nonstop flights to Tokyo-Narita using Boeing 767-300ER aircraft, but ceased this service in 2011.

About 140,000 passengers travelled between Perth and Japan each year, despite not having a nonstop service. Perth Airport CEO Kevin Brown expected these numbers to increase by around 40% with the new direct service. ANA managing director for Australia/Oceania Ryo Sadayuki said there has been a strong response from customers. The direct flight takes less than 10 hours, whereas a connecting flight via Singapore or Hong Kong takes 14 to 15 hours.

For Perth services, ANA is using Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners configured to seat 184 passengers in a three-class configuration; 32 business class seats, 14 premium economy seats (2-3-2 across) and 138 economy seats (3-3-3 across).

ANA was formed in 1953 and is the largest airline in Japan with a 232 aircraft plus 81 aircraft on order.
