RA-82042 Antonov An-124-100 Ruslan (MSN 9773054055093/0606) of Volga-Dnepr Airlines over the southern suburbs of Perth - 10 June 2020. Flight VI3550 from Denpasar (Bali), on approach to Perth Airport's runway 03 at 10:54am. Departed Perth on 12 June 2020 as VI3441 to Shenzen (China). Built in 1991, delivered to Volga-Dnepr on 23 July 1991 as CCCP-82042, re-registered RA-82042. On 13 November 2020, this aircraft was seriously damaged after suffering an uncontained failure of engine number 2 after take-off from Tolmachevo Airport, Novosibirsk, Russia. Debris from the engine punctured the fuselage and wings, affecting power supplies and rendering the ADS-B and radio inoperative. Engines 3 and 4 were also affected. The aircraft returned to Tolmachevo Airport, but one of the two sets of nosewheels did not extend before landing, and the brakes, spoilers and thrust reversers were inoperative, so the aircraft overran the runway by 300 metres and its remaining nosewheel collapsed. All 14 people aboard were uninjured and engine 1 was unable to be shut down for 3 hours after landing. The aircraft will be repaired. Photo © David Eyre.
