This is the only remaining part of the original 1962 Perth Airport terminal.



I boarded VH-JQX Airbus A320-232 of QantasLink (Network Aviation) at Terminal 3’s bay 17 at 10:35am for flight QF1830 Perth to Karratha. This aircraft was built in 2004 and operated by Jetstar Australia from 2004 to 2020, when it was leased to Network Aviation, a Qantas subsidiary based in Perth.


Parked on bay 17, Terminal 3 at 10:27am. It arrived as flight QF1825 from Karratha at 10:08am.
I boarded this aircraft at 10:38am for flight QF1830 to Karratha, which was scheduled to depart at 10:45am.
Sat at seat 27A (3rd row from back left side, 3rd and 4th window from the back).
The aircraft pushed back at 10:55am and started engines, but did not taxy out.
After a few minutes, the pilot announced there was a technical issue with number 2 engine they were trying to resolved. This was unsuccessful and they said we would taxy back to bay 17 and get an aircraft engineer to check it.
We went back to bay 17 at 11:04am. The engineer checked for some time, then decided it was a complex issue, and around 11:35am, we were asked to disembark and wait in the departure lounge and we would use a spare aircraft.
I waited at gate 17A, as our flight was departing from bay 22. Boarded VH-VQR for the flight to Karratha. It
VH-JQX later departed to Karratha at 1:54pm as QF1831.

Parked on bay 17, Terminal 3 at 10:27am. It arrived as flight QF1825 from Karratha at 10:08am.

A pilot eventually said there was a technical issue with number 2 engine and that we must go back to bay 17 and get an engineer to check. We went back to bay 17 at 11:04am, 8 minutes after pushback. The engineer checked for some time then decided it was a complex issue so we were asked to disembark back into Terminal 3 at gate 17 and await a spare aircraft to be allocated.

I waited at gate 17A and took a photo of VH-EBJ from the terminal at 11:42am.

Flight QF71 to Singapore, parked on bay 18, Terminal 3 at 11:41am. It departed at 12:14pm.
Eventually our flight QF1830 was allocated to a different aircraft and at around 12:07pm, I walked from Gate 17A to our aircraft at Bay 22, near the southern end of Terminal 3.
This was a bonus for me, as I was able to walk past VH-ZNE Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner of Qantas, named ‘Skippy’, which was parked on bay 20A having just arrived as QF10 from London Heathrow at 11:42am. It continued on to Melbourne as QF10 at 1:28pm. Coincidentally, I was lucky to see this exact aircraft visit Karratha on 1 June 2026 as QF10 direct from London Heathrow, having been diverted there to get fuel due to ground fueling system problems at Perth Airport. This was the first visit by a Boeing 787 to Karratha and the first direct London – Karratha flight.

We had been allocated another A320, VH-VQR. This was built in 2005 and also served with Jetstar from 2005 to 2023 when it went to QantasLink (Network Aviation). As I walked around to board VH-VQR, which was parked on bay 22, I also had a great view of sistership VH-VQU parked on bay 23. I boarded VH-VQR at 12:12pm and sat in seat 27A again.

We took off from Perth’s Runway 03 at 12:43pm. After take-off, we turned left over Caversham and headed west, providing great views of Perth Airport, Perth city, the Swan River and Fremantle.
