Perth Airport has released images of the latest design for the co-located airport terminals and the third runway, 03R/21L.
The upgrades would be built by 2024-2025, with Qantas to move to Airport Central from their current location at Terminals 3 and 4 on the west side of the airport, which are ageing and due for replacement. Terminal 3 includes some sections from the original 1962 terminal building.
Passenger numbers are expected to increase by 50% during the next 10 years.
Phase one includes three new international gates accessed through the existing terminal building, to be completed by 2024. Completion of the second phase depends on passenger numbers and airline requirements. The project is expected to cost $1.50 billion to $2 billion.
There are plans to build multistorey car parks close to the terminals, as well as an airport hotel.
Earlier designs
A number of different designs have been released by Perth Airport over the years, though it now looks somewhat more conservative, with lower capacity than the earlier designs.
