Operating a charter flight from Derby-Curtin, landing on runway 03 at 14:22.

This aircraft flew a medical evacuation flight from the US Antarctic base at McMurdo on 9 August 2012. It landed on the ice runway at McMurdo in a brief twilight period, after a 5-hour flight from Christchurch, New Zealand with five Australians aboard to evacuate a US patient. The aircraft took off again an hour later, returning to Christchurch.

McMurdo is the main US Antarctic base, located on the southern tip of Ross Island, 3,800km south of Christchurch and 1360km north of the South Pole.

From November to March each year, this aircraft operates on behalf of the Australian Government’s Australian Antarctic Division on a weekly service from the Division’s base in Hobart, Tasmania to an ice runway at Wilkins, Antarctica (hence the “Snowbird” radio callsign). Apart from this, the A319 is available for private charter.

UR-CAH Antonov An-12BK (cn 8345604) of Ukraine Air Alliance

* FIRST VISIT TO PERTH *

On a smoky final approach to runway 21 at 08:59 as flight UKL4095 from Johor Baru. The aircraft had departed Johor Baru at 01:18 – a flight time of 7 hours 46 minutes.

The flight was flown at a cruise altitude of FL250 (25,000 feet) and a cruise speed of approximately 290 knots.

The aircraft departed Perth at 11:18 to Kota Kinabalu as UKL4096.

History of this aircraft: (courtesy of www.Scramble.nl)

Construction completed on 15 May 1968, allocated military serial “87” for service with the Ukraine Air Force.

By September 1996, it was noted flying with Ukrainian civil registration UR-11314 with Air Ukraine (leased from Lviv Airlines), and was still painted in military matt grey – its former code “87” was still visible under paint. By September 2000, it was now operated by its owner Lviv Airlines, still in all-grey colours. In October 2002 it was again operated by Air Ukraine in all-grey colours with light blue titles. In May 2003, it was noted with no titles, operated by Lviv Airlines – see photo.

It was sold to Asterias Commercial S.A. on 29 June 2006 and registered in Moldova as ER-AXX on 12 December 2006. It was operated by Aeronord and repainted white and grey with red cheatlines- see photo.

On 19 June 2007, the Moldovan registration was cancelled and the aircraft was registered in Ukraine as UR-CAH, flown with no titles and operated by Meridian Avia.

In 2011, it was painted at Dunsfold, UK in fictitious US Air Force markings as ‘60026’ with AFMC MG McGuire and 305th AW titles, for filming of the movie “World War Z” – it was noted at Dunsfold from 19 September – 3 October 2011 (see photo).

During 2012 it was operated by Ukraine Air Alliance.
