Photo © David Eyre. ‘DRAGON 17’ from RAAF Base Amberley, landing on runway 03. On 19 August, this aircraft conducted a 22-minute air-to-air refuelling of Boeing C-17 A41-213 over the Southern Ocean. The C-17, which also departed from Perth, was air-dropping over nine tonnes of supplies to the 18 scientists, researchers and staff at Mawson Station, Australian Antarctic Division (AAD), during its 11,000 kilometres, 15-hour round trip. This mission required three-months of planning, complicated by COVID-19 quarantine requirements.
