VH-WGT Shorts SC7 Skyvan 3M-100 (cn SH.1960) of Fugro Airborne Surveys

Equipped with an electromagnetic loop, nose and tail booms, tail magnetometer, towed receiver.

The electromagnetic loop is used to measure conductivity caused by variations in the Earth's minerals, water content or salinity. The wire strung around the outer parts of aircraft is used to generate an electical pulse into the ground. Another device is then towed on a cable behind the tail to detect the return signal fom the generated pulse.

The tail-mounted magnetometer boom is used to measure variations in the Earth's magnetic field due to changes in the magnetite content of the rock.

This aircraft was built in 1978 and test flown as UK Class B registration G-14-128. It was then registered to Short Brothers Ltd as G-BFUJ, and appeared at the 1978 Farnborough Air Show.

It was delivered to the Lesotho Police in January 1979 and registered 7P-AAC, but was reregistered a few days later as PMU-2 and delivered to the Lesotho Police Mobile Unit (hence the serial PMU-2) on 7 February 1979.

Ten years later on 7 February 1989, it was sold to GAS General Aviation Services as N982GA, based in South Africa.

In October 1989, it was registered ZS-MJS to Skyvan Services and operated by Executive Aerospace Ltd in South Africa.

It was delivered to Perth Airport as ZS-MJS in 1996, and soon flown to Jandakot for extensive modifications to survey configuration. It was registered on 12 December 1996 as VH-WGT to World Geoscience Corporation Ltd, which was taken over by Fugro Airborne Surveys Ltd in 2000.

VH-VMX Bombardier CL-600-2B19 Challenger 850 (cn 7176) of Maxem Aviation (Fallbrook Pty Ltd)

Landing on runway 03 at Perth at 16:15, arriving from Essendon, Victoria.

The Challenger 850 is based on Bombardier's 50-seat CRJ200LR, which itself was a stretched derivative of the original Canadair CL-600 Challenger.

It is a corporate shuttle aircraft, fitted out with an executive seating configuration of 15-19 passengers, and has a range of 5,200 km at Mach 0.8.

This particular aircraft was first built as a Challenger SE (Special Edition) and test flown in 1997 as C-FMMX. It was re-registered N176SE and delivered to TAG Aviation in 1998, and they reregistered the aircraft as HB-IVU in 1999. It then became LX-GJC with Silver Arrow in 2000.

It was redesignated as a Challenger 850 in 2003, being re-registered P4-CRJ with HCX Aviation. In December 2007, it became VP-BHX with Carre Aviation, then 9H-AFU with Comlux Aviation in 2009.

It was sold to Fallbrook Pty Ltd (operated by Maxem Aviation) and registered VH-VMX on 2 May 2011. It is based locally at Perth Airport.

9V-SYL Boeing 777-312 (cn 33376/515) of Singapore Airlines

First visit since repainted in Star Alliance special colours.

This aircraft was previously painted in standard Singapore Airlines colours (see photo in our July 2012 photos), but during August 2012 it was repainted in Star Alliance colours.

Another 777-312, 9V-SYE was previously the only -312 in Star Alliance colours, but it is rumoured that this older aircraft is to leave the fleet soon, which is why 9V-SYL was repainted. There are a few other aircraft in the other types of the Singapore Airlines fleet wearing Star Alliance colours.
