Flight SA280 from Johannesburg at 12:48, flying north east over the northern suburbs of Perth at 3,600 feet, before turning right to join final approach to runway 21 at Perth Airport.
Note the wingtip vortices are visible. Wingtip vortices are formed by wings due to low pressure air on the top surface of the wing mixing in a circular pattern (vortex) around the wingtip with the high pressure air below the wing. The vortex has has a low-pressure core, and on humid days this low pressure can cause the moist air to cool below dew point, forming visible “streamers” at the wingtips.
South African Airways ran a public competition to design a an Olympics paint scheme for one of their aircraft to fly the South African team and officials to the 2012 London Olympics. Over 300 entries were received and the winning design was submitted by Stellenbosch University student Adrie Le Roux. He attended a ceremony at SAA Technical’s Hangar 07 at Johannesburg on 8 July 2012, during which the first paint was applied to the aircraft, and won a trip to the Olympics.
The aircraft bears images of South African swimmers, runners, and soccer players. ZS-SXD was rolled out in the new colours on 18 July 2012 and took the team to the London Olympics on 19 July. The Olympic games were held during 27 July to 12 August 2012, and the Paralympics were 29 August to 9 September 2012.

  1. Good morning,

    You have a photo of CSWAFC’s Phenom 100 VH-LWZ, on 30th September 2013.

Is it possible we can use this photo for promotional purposes?
Do you have a higher resolution photo/s of VH-LWZ that we can use?

    Kind regards,
China Southern West Australian Flying College
