  1. Sooner the Perth – Manila direct flights start, the sooner my large extended family and I will make repeated flights to the Philippines .

  2. May 2018… heard on local radio philippine airlines restarting Perth Manila direct.

Anyon know if this is true??

    1. Philippine Airlines have plans to introduce the Airbus A321neo on Manila – Perth direct services, but no date has been announced for the commencement of these services.
They will start using the type on Manila – Brisbane direct services from July 2018, and the Perth services will hopefully start sometime after that.

  3. Would definitely fly PAL if it’s nonstop from Perth to Manila. At the moment, people are flying Cathay/Singapore Airlines and layover in HK or SG is just inconvenient. Nonstop would definitely be in demand as there’s no other airline to compete with.

  4. My family and I would definitely fly PAL from Perth to Manila at least three times a year to visit friends there.

  5. When is nonstop flight from Perth to Manila gonna happen? Tired of waiting. Might be another 5 years I would say. Haiz

    1. Philippine Airlines have new Airbus A321neo aircraft which are due to be delivered from 2017, but are considering converting some of these orders to the longer range A321neoLR, which would be needed for direct Manila-Perth flights.
However, Philippine Flight Network website stated: “Service to Perth was launched via Darwin in 2013 but was quickly cancelled due to weak demand. It remains unclear if PAL will attempt the route again.”
My personal view is that routing the flight via Darwin was part of the problem, together with insufficient (if any) marketing of the service at the time.

  6. Have been waiting over a year for a decision, but nothing seems to be happening. Well that’s put paid to any holidays or staff conventions in the Philippines. We’ll only contemplate going back to this country once there are direct Perth to Manilla flights.

    1. They have delayed the start of this service indefinitely, as the lease on the Boeing 757 aircraft fell through.
We do not know when or if the service will recommence.

  7. Hi David,
Can you please tell us how long is the flight from Perth to Manila or vice-versa?

    Thanks

    Regards,
    Alma

    1. Hi Alma,
Despite the CEO announcing this service in July, it is now unlikely that this service will commence on 27 October 2014.
I note that the air traffic slot allocations scheduled from 27 October 2014 have recently been withdrawn.
This may mean that the airline has delayed the start date or that they are not proceeding with the service.

      David Eyre

  8. G’day David,
You seem to have knowledge of when PAL are flying from Perth again.
Muchily appreciated, as we would like to fly to Manila around the 18th of November and returning at the end of the month.
Let me know what happens and if Flight Centre are the ones to book through.
    Regards, Fred

  9. HI

When can we book these flights?

The Pal call-centre does not seem to know about them.

    Pat

    1. Hi Pat,
The airline’s CEO announced the flights at a press conference regarding the alliance between PAL and Etihad. They have sought air traffic slot allocations and flight numbers have been assigned. The 757 aircraft to be used on the new services have been identified. That is all the information we have.
I tried contacting them via Facebook and mentioned all of this to them. I was told to await official announcements.
We have to wait until the airline makes an announcement (other than the CEO’s announcement).
      Regards,
      David Eyre

  10. Who cares?
Do we need another direct link to a third world destination?
Probably be cheaper via AAX ahyway, but Id be curious to see the fare structure.
Lets see BA, JAL, AA, AF, AC come to Perth.
Yet another potential opportunity for QF missed.

    1. Last year, Perth Airport reported that passengers to and from the Philippines had grown by more than 15% each year for the past five years, and that the Philippines is now the 12th most popular international destination to and from Perth. More than 36,000 Philippine nationals visited Western Australia in 2012.
Holiday destinations in the Philippines such as Boracay are also becoming popular with Australian tourists, and Philippine Airlines promotes Western Australia as an attractive tourist and business destination for Filipinos.
So a lot of people would care – both here and in the Philippines. Whether they are developing countries or not, the statistics speak for themselves.
We also need links from Perth to other countries in the region, such as India and Vietnam, which are important for business and tourism.
I agree that it is another missed opportunity for Qantas, who seem to have given up on international flights from Perth, unlike most other overseas airlines.
      Regards,
      David Eyre

  11. Thank god we are becoming an international airport at last.
Good to see more airlines coming to Perth.
Next could be KLM or Air France.
    Or Even Air India.
