Broome Airport has started work on a $2.5 million refurbishment of the departure lounges in the airport terminal, with work expected to be completed by the end of May 2013.
The airport is also hoping to establish regular international flights, which may lead to an expansion of the terminal.
In December 2012, Broome lodged new submissions with Jetstar Asia and SilkAir in Singapore, to encourage direct flights to Broome. The proposed James Price Point LNG hub could generate sufficient demand to make international flights and the terminal extension viable.

Broome Airport is already an international airport and the proposal related to building a dedicated international terminal there. Talks on new international air services were also underway with Singapore Airlines and its subsidiary Silk Air.
However, this was all contingent on Woodside Energy proceeding with the planned Kimberley gas hub at James Price Point. In April 2013, Woodside announced that it was not proceeding with the gas hub onshore for a variety of reasons.
Therefore, the following week Broome Airport management announced that the airport project had effectively been rendered non-viable and would not proceed.
